Florida
Florida. For 12 months of the year it's the sunshine holiday destination that suits
your mood. Choose fun and theme parks or sugar-fine sandy beaches; secluded coves and
romantic sunsets or great sport like golf and fishing. There's world class shopping
and some hot, hot nightlife!
Orlando
Once, a holiday in Orlando meant
taking the kids to the theme parks, which emerged during the 70s and 80s. That still
holds good today as the creative forces behind WALT DISNEY WORLD resort, UNIVERSAL
Orlando Resort and SEA WORLD Orlando go head to head. The difference now is that
Orlando offers a fabulous holiday to people of all tastes and ages even if they never
sample the pleasures of 'Mission: SPACE' - the newest attraction at Disney's EPCOT
Center - or Universal's 'Incredible Hulk Coaster' at Islands of Adventure.
The excellent year round climate makes Orlando a haven for sports enthusiasts with top
quality golf and tennis available and the highest levels of instruction and practice
facilities. Many leading sports stars make their home here. World class outlet
shopping and retail shopping makes Orlando a top destination for bargain hunting.
Belz Factory Outlet World on International Drive features 170 leading brand stores
while the Florida Mall offers massive retail choice and is located close to Orlando
International Airport.
Luxurious spa and sports resorts like Grande Lakes Orlando, which comprises two
magnificent hotels - The Ritz Carlton and the JW Marriott, offer the perfect
place to play and unwind in beautiful surroundings with your every need catered for.
You could spend your entire holiday without leaving the 500-acre setting.
The theme parks now offer sophisticated and varied nightlife options with Downtown
Disney's Pleasure Island and Universal City Walk offering a wide range of themed
bars and restaurants and music and dancing of every type and style. You can stay
on-site too with numerous themed hotels and resorts from which to choose.
The Beaches and Beyond
Florida's legendary palm-fringed sands include 'America's Best Beach', Fort de Soto
Park, St Petersburg - as awarded by America's 'Dr Beach', Stephen Leatherman.
Situated at the southern tip of St Petersburg Beach (2 hours west of Orlando),
Fort de Soto consists of seven miles of shoreline spread over five islands.
There is a fort built during the Spanish-American War, two fishing piers and picnic
pavilions. Visitors can rent canoes, kayaks or take a bike out to explore the park's
recreation trails.
Magnificent as Fort de Soto is, there are numerous areas along Florida's 2,000 mile
coastline that could lay claim to the 'Best Beach' title. Along the Gulf of Mexico
shoreline south of St Petersburg, Sarasota, Naples, Sanibel Island and Marco Island
all boast sugar-fine sands, gently lapping waters and high quality watersports
facilities with high class hotels and resorts either beachside or close at hand.
The Florida Keys consist of a group of coral islands linked by a causeway stretching
from Miami and coming within 85 miles of Cuba. At their most southerly point is
Key West, a unique resort with a Bohemian flavour, superb restaurants, fine art
galleries, a vast array of shops and Ernest Hemingway's former home. Come to the
Keys for fantastic watersports, including some of the world's best scuba diving and
to Key West for its carefree atmosphere and lively nightlife.
The jewel in the crown of Florida's Atlantic Ocean coastline is undoubtedly
Miami
South Beach. Order your morning cappuccino at the News Cafe across from the seafront
on Ocean Drive and survey the scene. There are lycra-clad joggers and cyclists heading
for the beach, bar babes hawking their menus, a procession of shiny classic American
cars and motorbikes out cruising and more fashion statements walking the sidewalk
than in OK! magazine. And this is the day time!
The backdrop to this assault on the senses is the beautifully restored Art Deco
buildings, for this is an area brought
back from the brink to its 1920s heyday. Now you can shop in the coolest boutiques,
visit the best restaurants, bars and galleries or simply laze or bike the huge white
sandy beaches. Authentically restored art deco hotels abound from family functional
to boutique chic. We have all the options you could ever need here and throughout the
Sunshine State of Florida.
