Apart from the reception staff being new and unsure of what to do when I had an emergency! The hotel and the staff were lovely. The hotel was very pet friendly though, which was a shock, as there were a lot of dogs!

A well located hotel for sightseeing with cable car terminus within easy walking distance. Lots of restaurants near at hand. A special mention for the very elegant dining area based on a French theme. Helpful and welcoming staff - all in a very pleasant experience.

Hotel staff helpful and friendly, hotel location excellent close to union square and therefore easy access to most areas via trams etc., only issue was with number of down and outs between hotel and Union square 2-3 blocks away. The hotel breakfast supposedly included was a basic buffet and not enough vouchers for all of us but not big issue.

Another Kimpton hotel, the second of our trip and we've already got the impression that they do personal service well. Again the attitude of the staff and the quality and enthusiasm of greeting were faultless. The room and decor were again of high quality and have a less corporate feel than many hotels, though the room was the smallest of our trip making it quite tricky to find places to keep cases etc without them getting in the way - though the objective was of course to spend as little time in the room as possible anyway. I'd probably attribute the room size to the age and location of the building - which can be typical of city hotels in older areas. The hotel is excellently located just off Union Square which is a great hub for getting around the city in most directions. The hotel's bar and restaurant - Le Grand Cafe - are superb, and apply a French influence to some Californian classics - we tried the food in the restaurant itself, and the less pricey bar and grill, both of which were top notch. Though the area around the hotel is safe and targeting the affluent, you need to be prepared to come face to face with the city's homeless at any time of day - though it seems you will encounter this anywhere in the city. The hotel follows the Kimpton tradition of offering a complimentary wine hour in the early evening in the public lounge, which can be a lovely way to celebrate the beginning of the evening. On the whole I'd certainly never hesitate to make a return visit to this funky and friendly hotel.

Fabulous decor in this boutique city centre hotel. Our room was very well appointed including great animal print bath robes and a real luxury feel to the antique/modern furniture. The staff were very helpful with everything from directions, details and looking after our baggage as we enjoyed our final day in the city after check out. They serve free coffee in the lounge in the morning and have a free wine tasting every evening 5 till 6, it's lovely to make use of the communal areas in the hotel. We had complimentary continental breakfast served in the grand cafe adjoining the hotel, a nice fruit cup and choice of pastries or toast. Food was good quality as was the coffee. Getting to Union Square takes less than 5 minutes and you are in the heart of the shopping area. We walked to the waterfront with ease from there too. Having taken a cab from the airport on the way back we decided to walk to the BART and it was only 10 minutes from the hotel, so great location all round. I would definitely stay here again, they knew it was our honeymoon and had left us a bottle of complimentary champagne in our room on arrival!

We loved this hotel- and were stunned at the grandness of the lobby and reception areas the minute we arrived. Our room was perfect with fabulous furnishings, and the dining room, bar and cafe were just as impressive with a lovely Parisien theme and food menus- the staff were also particularly nice and very enthusiastic to help. Overall, this is a hotel I would recommend to anyone visiting San Francisco and would definitely return.

A lovely hotel with a great size room and a beautiful restaurant. We arrived late at night and were promised someone would send tea/coffee to our room - we had to go back to reception to remind them - couldn't ring down as the phone did not work (we complained about this too but it was never fixed).

A well run hotel in an excellent location. The staff were notably friendly and helpful. We particularly liked the French decor. The fires and happy cocktail hour for guests. A problem with the plumbing reported in the evening was fixed without delay.

The decor of the hotel is lovely quite flamboyant in places but it works well. The bedrooms have stripes everywhere which you wouldn’t think would work but it does. We loved the early evening drinks it was a lovely opportunity to meet other guests. The concierge was very helpful.
